What this site is
Cubic Yard Calculator is a small set of free tools for one job: turning measurements into the volume you need to order. The cubic yard calculator handles rectangles, circles and triangles in any mix of inches, feet, yards, centimeters and meters, and adds up as many sections as you need. The concrete calculator adds bag counts, and the converters switch between cubic feet, cubic yards, cubic meters, square feet and tons.
How the numbers are worked out
Volumes are plain geometry: area × depth, converted to cubic yards by dividing cubic feet by 27. Unit conversions use exact definitions (1 yard = 0.9144 meters). Every page shows its formula and a worked example so you can check the result by hand.
Weights per cubic yard are typical published figures for each material, and they are labelled “about” because real loads vary with moisture, mix and supplier. Bag counts for concrete use typical manufacturer yields (about 0.60 cubic feet for an 80 lb bag and 0.45 for a 60 lb bag). Your supplier’s own figures always win.
What this site does not do
We do not sell materials, take a cut from suppliers, or recommend contractors. Prices are not quoted because they vary too much by place and season to be useful; the cost guide explains how to work out your own total from a local quote.
